Darling extends stamp duty holiday
During last week’s budget speech, Chancellor Alistair Darling said that the government would be extending the current stamp duty exemption on properties worth less than £175,000 until the end of the year.
The stamp duty holiday was introduced in September of last year and was initially expected to last for twelve months. As house prices have continued falling throughout the economic crisis this is certainly good news for buy to let property investors, as not only is it costing less to purchase investment properties, but the likelihood of paying tax on a purchase applies to less properties than it used to.
